It has been already 14 years since the day I decided to start my company Workland. I still remember the day that me, a professional marketer and branding expert, told my husband that I would create an HR-Tech company to automate the match making process between candidates and companies. In hindsight...he was right, it was totally crazy.
As a still fully bootstrapped SaaS software company, I can say that I've been around the block and learnt most of the lessons required to build a successful business in a super competitive space. I've learnt many things along the journey, some by doing things right, some by following advice and some THE VERY HARD way.
After making it out from what I call the Valley of Death of companies, I decided to start coaching and mentoring startups and SMEs, to help them scale through high ROI marketing strategies and plans. After coaching 100+ companies from different industries, I realized that my approach was generating super high ROI in terms of new sales AND avoiding costly marketing mistakes.
Littlest Hobo Series (1980s)
When I was young I loved this series, always built on the same format. A nice family had a crisis situation, the dog arrived, saved the family, family wanted to keep him, but dog had to go at the end to go save another family (very sad, every time).
I mention this, because this is actually how I see myself. I love to come into a company with a big challenge, help turn things around and then leave at the end to go help another company in trouble.
I have learnt to love being parachuted in a company, get things done in record time and leave when all is better with a feeling of having had a big impact.
As I can only mentor a certain number of organizations simultaneously... lately I thought about how I could multiply the interventions as I see so many companies struggling. One of my big callings in life is to prevent business owners and managers from making the sometimes costly mistakes I did over 25 years of working in marketing, 15 years as an entrepreneur, or observed through my 6 years of coaching companies.

Marketing is both an art and a science. And the strategy behind it is just like a game of Chess: You better be an expert to expect to win. The problem is that experience is the results of both good and bad decisions, which implies you need to lose money to figure out how to make good decisions. The danger with marketing is that it is the department with by far the most grey zones and there are always numerous excuses on why things did not work. There is less cause-effect relationship between efforts and output and no business owner can take brand awareness to the bank. Most businesses cannot afford highly or have full time jobs for experienced marketers and juniors will most definitely make mistakes.
After going from a 200M$ marketing budget supported by an army of agencies, to a 0$ budget + just me in the beginnings of my SaaS company, I got a whole new perspective on marketing. I learnt a ton from my good shots and (sometimes very costly) mistakes in my 14 year journey as an entrepreneur and started coaching companies to help them avoid the biggest trap: Marketing.
